Workshop Objective:

To preserve, promote, and popularize the traditional art form of Mata ni Pachedi, often referred to as the Kalamkari of Gujarat.

Learning Outcomes:

– Understand the historical and cultural significance of Mata ni Pachedi in Indian textile heritage
– Master fundamental techniques of block-printing and pen-painting (kalamkari) used in the art form
– Create personal small-scale Mata ni Pachedi artworks using authentic natural dyes

About the Workshop:

Duration: 5 Days
Timing: 10:00 am to 4:30 pm
Venue: SOD – Entrance

Hands-on interactive sessions combining theoretical introduction with practical application of traditional Mata ni Pachedi techniques.

Prerequisites:

– No prior art experience required.
– Workshop designed to be beginner-friendly.
– Open to anyone interested in Indian folk art.

Schedule:

Day 1: Learn history, motifs, and natural dyes. Create thumbnail sketch.
Day 2: Understand tools, prepare fabric, and draw outlines.
Day 3: Learn iconography, fill patterns, and details.
Day 4: Natural dye techniques, paint, and add details.
Day 5: Finish, critique, and display work. Reflect on craft and culture.
