DIY Furniture Concept Development Competition

Objective:

 

This competition seeks to uncover new perspectives in the design of Residencial Interior furniture for future.

Prizes:

1st – 10,000
2nd– 5,000
Registration Fees: Rs.200

Theme:

 

Futuristic Residential Furniture: Designs should reflect the concept of futuristic living and residential interiors. Consideration should be given to technological advancements, sustainable materials, modularity, multi-functionality, and integration of AI or smart technology in furniture.

 

Interpretation of “Futuristic”: Designs should explore new and innovative aesthetics, materials, and functionalities that align with future trends in residential spaces. Think of ways to improve comfort, functionality, sustainability, and integration with emerging technologies.

Design Criteria:

 

Functionality: The furniture piece should be practical, ergonomic, and usable within a residential environment. It should consider current and future lifestyles.

 

Aesthetic: The design should present a clean, forward-thinking aesthetic that aligns with the futuristic concept. Creativity and uniqueness are key.

 

Sustainability: Use of eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient technologies, or innovative, sustainable design practices is encouraged.

 

Materials: Participants may propose new, experimental, or futuristic materials (e.g., biodegradable plastics, composites, smart fabrics, etc.). If conventional materials are used, the design should clearly demonstrate how they contribute to the theme of futurism.

 

Technology Integration: Designs should explore the use of smart technology or automated features that are practical, not just conceptual. Consider IoT integration, lighting systems, climate control, or other future-forward tech.

 

Space Optimization: Designs should focus on optimizing small spaces, adaptability, and modularity for future residential environments.

Submission Requirements:

 

Design Concept:

A written description of the design, including the inspiration, materials used, functionalities, and how it aligns with futuristic residential living. (Max 500 words).

 

Technical Drawings:

Participants must submit detailed, scaled technical drawings of the design, including dimensions and key features (e.g., front, side, and top views etc in 1:10scale ).

 

3D Renderings:

High-quality, photorealistic 3D renderings in A4 size page or models of the proposed furniture from multiple angles.

 

Prototypes (optional):

If possible, a physical prototype or a working model of the design can be submitted. This is not mandatory but could earn extra consideration.

 

Video Presentation (optional):

A brief (3-5 minute) video showcasing the design concept, materials, functionality, and usability of the furniture. This can help judges better visualize the piece in action.

Submission Guidelines:

 

  • Student Age should be below 25 years.
  • Maximum 2 student allowed in one group.
  • Every group need to prepare Printed presentation about their concept, design and development which is to be presented on the day of event day.
  • Presentation should be in color printed on A1 Sheet.
  • Registration number must be mentioned on the Presentation. Do not write name of student / group or anything else.
  • Participate must come up with their design furniture prototype with actual material in 1:10 scale.

Competition Timing :

 

Reporting Time: 10:00 am

Start Time: 10:15 am to 12:15 pm

Judging Criteria:

 

  • Innovation & Creativity (30%): How original and forward-thinking is the design? Does it push the boundaries of current furniture design?
  • Functionality & Usability (25%): Is the furniture piece practical for daily use in a home environment? Does it offer solutions for modern residential challenges (e.g., space, comfort, adaptability)?
  • Aesthetic Appeal (20%): How visually striking is the design? Does it blend well with futuristic or modern interior themes?
  • Sustainability & Material Use (15%): How environmentally conscious is the design? Are materials and processes eco-friendly and sustainable?
  • Feasibility (10%): How feasible is the design from a manufacturing and implementation standpoint? Is it something that could realistically be produced in the near future?
